Fire Fighters

Post by Teletric on Wed Jan 23, 2013 4:58 am

Fire fighters are basically a class to put away printer fires because it is unrealistic for fires to go out "randomly"(by use of admin commands)
I mean we should have fire fighters, instead of admins putting out fires with commands.
They would be armed with a fire extinguisher and have a fire extinguisher, no weapons.
They could have that gas mask skin and maybe in Ted's map, a fire station.

My thought is that it would be very hard to do. Other than that it's a generally good idea for when Me, Joe or Fulcrum decide to burn some stuff. Although, there would have to be fires very often which there isn't. That's the only flaw I see.

Against.
Muchly.
Firefighters are legal city defenders.
Printers are almost always against the law.
And as such- they would have to just sit with the bankers, you may as well give the bankers a way of putting fires out.
Coding would be incredibly difficult.
And Teds map is practically complete, fulc is just spending time on the complex coding.
-1.

Coding would be easy?

A timer every 300 seconds or so, pick a prop and ignite it.

"fire tool" would just be unigte trace entity. But itd have a gay model.

Definitely -1 from me - maybe on a bigger map, but for now just no. Would be so annoying, especially with the small condensed rooms, everything would just light up in flames.

And i guess how it would work is you aim at the burning prop, and it deactivated the ignition on that prop individually, and you have to do that to each prop.
But still.
Mrh.
Fire is too destructive in gmod, fire fighters would have to be ninja and on the scene pre-destruction.

In all fairness. Not sure how hard it would be to code but you could make fire do less damage over a longer period. This would just let the firefighters have to reach the destined location to extinguish the fire. But i'm with Daniel the current map is too small and would be too awkward with all the small spaces, and no room for it in the new map. (maybe Make Room?) <- just a suggestion, I've never ever had anything to do with map making in Gmod so again lost on how hard it would be.

Re: Fire Fighters

come to think of it i did have an idea a while ago for a fire extinguisher. You use it an it puts out fires nearby, more of a backup. I ditched the idea when I decided to remove fire from printers.
I could redo that.

For printers. No they will no longer explode.
Fire will no longer unfreeze or turn black, but will still spread.
Petrol tanks (eventually used to make batteries) could start fires.

Then it might become necissary to have a fire extinguisher in your base incase someone comes along and sets fire to you. Dunno tho.

Just to reiterate. I want to remove unweld/unfreeze from fire, its buggy and annoying + idiots (me) abuse it on an hourly basis.

Isn't this printer stuff getting a bit overly complicated? I mean, they're not even that good, and I'm pretty sure having to use petrol to make batteries to get your printer working and immediately having it stolen wouldn't make it worth it at all and would probably make players annoyed.
I vote for the idea of having the batteries, but no more. And I don't even use printers anymore.

Maybe have a few selected props that would realistically catch fire IRL, like an oven or something electrical.

I have an idea...

Incendiary grenades.

The explosion causes a large fire that stays about 1 minute(Unless a fire fighter puts it out)and spreads one foot every 10-15 seconds.

Maybe a good idea
But IMO for a job dedicated to firefighting, there should be more fire causing stuff. Since money printers wont explode in the future because of the battery thing, having fires only start from incendiary grenades is a bit odd, especially on this small map. If we got a larger map and more fire causing stuff then it would be a good idea with the firefighters.

I have another idea! In the empty apartments, via FOTO, have fulc, or someone add some sorta cooking area like in the hotel, but the ovens are flame-able, and sometimes malfunction(Unlikely chances but might happen 3/10 times?) and catch some things on fire.

For that to happen, you would have to make it so that the actual cookers are useful in some way
Nobody is just going to spam e on a cooker just so it lights up, for banter, if it doesn't spawn anything useful.
Maybe drug labs or gunlabs ignite eventually.

The DRUUUGS! You're onto something! As Breaking Bad taught us all, meth labs will inevitably explode, so it makes sense that drug labs would go boom after a certain number of uses.

And then a gang member with a silver tongue, must explain to the police how the fire began.
Without refering to drugs, of course.
